Welcome to 2011. It has obviously been a very tough few weeks for many parts of Queensland with the terrible floods and our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have suffered loss of loved ones and the thousands who have suffered loss of property. Bundaberg Cricket Association was one organisation which suffered major losses locally at Kendall’s Flat, and a big thanks to all who have helped in the clean-up and recovery process, including Arthur Downie, Jodi Pfingst, Brett, Jodi, Zac and Brody McLellan, Craig Steinhart, Brad, Andrew and Steven Grogan.
It is good to be back playing after losing so many matches due to rain over the last few months. Let’s hope the rain stays away and we get plenty of good cricket in over the next few months. Across the board, it has not been a great season so far but we are still in with a chance in all grades if we can all keep working hard and we can get it together. We received a bonus when we took out the Division 1 NewsMail Cup for the sixth year in a row and the 11th time in its 15-year history but unfortunately it came via an ATW forfeit.
Congratulations to Josh and Charlie Nugent on their marriage on Saturday when despite being without five of our regular players, our Division 1 side scored a tremendous win over ATW. Josh McLean made a great debut with 57, while special mention must be made of under-15 duo Dean Krebs and Lachlan McGill who each bowled six overs very well and claimed three wickets between them. Our Division 2 Bolters side has been hot and cold but they got back to within a point of second with a good win over Country on Sunday, while our Blue side remained fourth despite a fighting loss to ATW. In Division 3, our White side moved into the top four for the first time by toppling high flyers ATW on Sunday, and the Pink side keeps doing great things fund-raising for the McGrath Foundation. Our Division 4 Blue side is in second place and qualified for the NewsMail Cup but rain robbed them of a shot at the title, while our White side has moved into fourth position. Our Under-16’s moved to the top of their table on Saturday, while in Under-14, our Blue side is unbeaten and is in first position while our under-13’s are second behind them. Our Under-12 Blue side moved into second with a narrow win over leaders YMCA on Saturday, while congratulations go to our White side after scoring their first win of the season on Saturday with Aaron Barlow a star with 3-0. We also have 2 under-10 sides and a Milo IN2Cricket Program.
